Rachel's Kids - Lending Library
I am writing to you on behalf of Rachel’s Kids, an inspired community focused on improving the lives of
children in need. Rachel’s Kids promotes hope and opportunity for children in need both locally and globally. We accomplish this by offering a variety of programs and collaborating with
community organizations who are focused on shaping a better future for these children through health, wellness and education initiatives.
I’m writing in hopes that you will consider Rachel’s Kids as the recipients of the funds raised by 100 Women Who Care About Cornwall. With these funds, we would start a new program where residents of Cornwall would be able to lend sporting and recreational equipment for free. Our main goal is to provide low income families the opportunity to equipment they may not have the funds to purchase.
Details of the programs are listed below.
Lending Library for Sporting and Recreational Equipment:
Rachel’s Kids would like to purchase various pieces of equipment of recreational relevance for the purpose of lending the items out (not renting) to the community members and community groups. The program was designed with low-income residents in mind, but this program can also be heavily utilized by community groups, schools, churches, individuals, etc. For example, this program would allow low income families an opportunity to go camping if they don’t own camping gear; to participate in public skating at our local arenas if they don’t have skates or helmets; to plan a fun birthday party with games and activities if they cannot afford entertainment, etc.
For many community groups, this program presents the opportunity to introduce new activities at no cost to an event or program that they would like to initiate. Often times, if volunteer committees can save money, they will in turn, pass on the savings to the event guest by means of lower or no admission fees, more entertainment for the same price, etc. The items in the library would be loaned out free of charge to any Cornwall and area residents; the only requirement is a sign up for a no-fee membership so that we can collect their contact information as a precautionary measure.
How will the completion of this project directly benefit the residents of the Cornwall area?: Through this project, we anticipate that the number of children from lower-income local families participating in recreational/physical activity will increase substantially as financial barriers will be removed. Greater accessibility to recreational supplies will grant the opportunity for these children to participate in recreational activities on a regular basis, no matter the season, resulting in a healthier, happier community. Rachel’s Kids has always mandated helping lesser fortunate children in the community through health related as well as other initiatives, and participation in physical activities results in healthier kids.
Rachel’s Kids would like to provide equal opportunities to all children! With the funds from 100 Women Who Care About Cornwall, all children within our community will be able to take part in recreational sports and enjoy the feeling of being a part of a team.
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” Let’s work together and get our children involved.
